About $170K awarded to fund water quality improvements in Waterford Township

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has awarded more than $3.4 million in grants to projects to improve water quality.

And one of those projects will be funded here in Erie County.

About $170,000 will go towards the Trout Run Advance Restoration Plan in Waterford Township.

According to the DEP, the plan targets landowner outreach to implement erosion and sediment controls on farmlands.

"We have to support organizations and states and communities that are close to the ground that know the solutions in their local watersheds in their streams in their communities for conservation," said Adam Ortiz, EPA Region 3 administrator.

This project and the other 11 awarded will help improve the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
