(WJW) — The CEO of a low-cost European airline has come up with a solution for deterring people from acting up during flights.

"We need to have a ban on airports – not [on] selling alcohol, but limiting the amount of alcohol that can be sold to any passenger to two alcoholic drinks," Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary told The Independent .

The comment comes as the US Federal Aviation Administration has reported a spike in unruly passengers, leading to people being kicked off flights and even to arrests, over the past few years.

The FAA said that while cases of wild behavior have gone down 80% since 2021, they still reported more than 2,000 cases in 2023, leading to $7.5 million in fines.

O'Leary's solution would be to have passengers show their boarding passes when purchasing alcohol at bars and restaurants at airports.

"And you shouldn't be served more than two alcoholic drinks – particularly when flights are delayed," he said.
