Albuquerque Fire Rescue donates rescue truck to Mesilla

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) will be donating a rescue truck to the town of Mesilla, as it's experiencing an increase in calls, according to AFR.

AFR says Mayor Tim Keller and Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo will travel south to donate a decommissioned AFR rescue truck to the town of Mesilla, Nm.

Mesilla, which is located on the western edge of Las Cruces, has a population of about 2,000 people. The town is experiencing an increase in calls and automatic aide agreements with surrounding departments continue to increase in demands for service, according to AFR.

"The addition of this donated rescue truck will add to the response capabilities of the Mesilla Fire Department," AFR said.

The truck is a 2007 Chevrolet 4500 with a transport capable, ambulance body that has served Albuquerque for 18 years.

The eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been arrested again, this time on suspicion of rape, police said Tuesday. Marius Borg Høiby is the stepson of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon, and the son of Mette-Marit from a previous relationship. Borg Høiby was arrested late Monday in Oslo on a preliminary charge of having had "sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act."

The trial of a man accused of holding down a teenage boy so colleagues could rape and abuse him at a New Hampshire youth center in the 1990s is set to begin Tuesday. It's the second criminal trial to stem from a broad 2019 investigation into historic abuse at the Sununu Youth Services Center in Manchester. Bradley Asbury, now age 70, is among nine men who worked at the Manchester center or an associated facility in Concord who are facing criminal charges.

A group of teens is accused of committing an anti-Asian hate crime in Brooklyn, New York City, after allegedly hurling whipped cream at an Asian couple while making mocking gestures at them last month. The couple, both aged 29, were walking in the area when the group of four teens allegedly approached them, pulled back the corners of their eyes — mimicking the couple's physical features — and yelled "ni hao" (Chinese for "hello"). One of the teens allegedly sprayed whipped cream from a can into another girl's hand, who then flung it at the victims.

An Australian accused of smuggling amphetamines in a suitcase appeared in a Japanese court on Monday nearly two years after her arrest, saying she is innocent and that she was tricked into carrying them as part of an online romance scam. Donna Nelson from Perth, Australia, was arrested at Japan's Narita International Airport just outside Tokyo when customs officials found about 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of stimulants, or phenylaminopropane, hidden in a double-bottom suitcase she was carrying. Nelson, 58, said she received the suitcase from an acquaintance of a man she met on social media in 2020, and brought it from Laos to Tokyo as instructed.
