AL.com Education Lab ‘Teachers of Alabama’ to be featured at Opportunity Summit

Teachers highlighted in a recent AL.com series will speak about their success in Alabama schools and their advice for other educators at the ninth annual Alabama Opportunity Summit in Birmingham.

In 2024, AL.com reporters found schools with the most improved grades from the Alabama school report card for the 2022-23 school year. Rebecca Griesbach, of AL.com's Education Lab, and Trisha Powell Crain, now with the Alabama Daily News, identified four local educators whose stellar work contributed to their school's overall academic growth.

These " Teachers of Alabama " demonstrate the effectiveness of evidence-based best practices in the classroom — and offer learning opportunities for other schools.

Join Crain and two of AL.com's featured "Teachers of Alabama," JoAnn Smoot-Bryant and Evelyn Rudolph, on Nov. 24 at Birmingham 's Red Mountain Theatre, for a discussion about how they leveraged success in their schools.

"We are happy to highlight the work local educators are doing across the state and share their solutions," said Ruth Serven Smith, a senior editor at AL.com who leads the Education Lab and Birmingham metro teams. "We want every community in Alabama to know that improvement is possible, and that opportunities for success are out there."
