Alexandria November General Election Voter Guide: Candidates, How To Vote Alexandria voters will cast ballots for mayor, city council, school board and federal races. Here's what voters need to know.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Sept. 20 marks the start of early voting for the Nov. 5, 2024, general election, which features local and federal races for Alexandria voters to decide. City of Alexandria voters will have mayoral, city council, school board, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and president on the general election ballot.

What's on the Ballot

Ballots in the City of Alexandria will only vary by school board district. All voters will have president and vice president, member of the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives 8th district, mayor, members of the city council (six seats), and members of a school board district (three seats in each of three districts).

In the mayoral race, Councilmember Alyia Gaskins is unopposed after defeating Vice Mayor Amy Jackson and businessman Steven Peterson in the Democratic primary. Current Mayor Justin Wilson is not seeking re-election.

There are six city council seats up for grabs. Six of the candidates won the Democratic primary election in June — incumbents John Taylor Chapman, Sarah Bagley, Kirk McPike and Canek Aguirre and School Board members Abdel Elnoubi and Jacinta Greene. Butler and Roy Byrd are running as independents, and Celianna Gunderson is running as a Republican.

All nine school board seats are up for election this year, and nine candidates are running. Voters will either cast a ballot in school board District A, B or C, depending on which area they live in. Three candidates in each of the three districts will be chosen.
