The Buffalo Bills quarterback and Hawkeye actress were first linked in May 2023 when they were photographed together on a night out in New York City. It wasn't until a year later, however, that Allen made their relationship Instagram official in July 2024, posting romantic photos of the couple in Paris and spending time with his family.

Earlier that year, a source told PEOPLE that the pair were getting "serious" and that Steinfeld would "love to settle down if it's with the right guy."

"They always planned to spend more time together after his season ended. Things have been going really well," the source said in February 2024. "They're both very family-oriented and driven, and they want to protect their relationship and keep it private. They've been on the same page with all of that."

The two also stopped for dinner at Sushi By Bou in Chelsea, where they were photographed with Allen's arm around Steinfeld as they posed next to the chef in a photo shared by restaurant founder Michael Sinensky on Facebook.

On one of the evenings, fans noticed that Allen was quick to disappear into a hotel after stepping out of a car while Steinfeld took photos with fans. Allen explained his quick getaway the following day on X (formerly Twitter), sharing that his pants had ripped earlier in the night.

"After we exchanged our knives lol, he told me there's an old wive's tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship," she wrote, per Sports Illustrated . "So we exchanged quarters so we didn't have that bad omen."

The gift came from their mutual love of cooking, and, after ensuring that no bad luck would come to pass, Steinfeld wrote that she loved using her new cooking tool.
