All animals welcome to St. Christopher’s ‘Blessing of the Animals’ event

St. Christopher's invites all Key Biscayne residents to bring their pets — or a photo of their pets — to the annual "Blessing of the Animals" on October 6 at 10 a.m.

"This celebrates the wonder and diversity of God's creations," said Reverend Willie Allen-Faiella, Priest in Charge.

The blessing harkens – or should we say "barkens" – to the 12th century and St. Francis, patron saint of animals and the environment. "God created animals for human companionship" it was once said.

All animals are welcome — on leash or in a carrier.

Longtime church members Kenneth Noto, a former federal prosecutor, and his wife, former attorney Carol Zeiner, look forward to bringing their 5-year-old, Havanese, Gus.

"Pets are part of our family and God's kingdom. We seek to share that blessing with all our neighbors and their family pets," Noto said.

"As cherished members of our households, it is only natural we want them to have a blessing as an expression of love and recognize the special place they hold in our hearts," Zeiner added.

To help the community's cats and dogs, the church requests attendees bring donations of cat and dog food, toys, and checks or cash for Key Biscayne Community Cats and Paws4You.

St. Christopher's By-the-Sea is located at 95 Harbor Drive on Key Biscayne. For more information, call (305) 361-5080.
