Allegations claim Tulia pound not adequate for keeping dogs

A local non-profit rescue claims the Tulia pound does not have adequate supplies or shelter for the dogs in their care.

Casey Minier from Gracie's Project says "The outside kennels I guess are the oldest kennels out there, they're not in the best shape out there at all there's enough maybe for some shade and shelter but they're all concrete cinderblock kennels."

Gracie's Project was contacted by the former animal control officer in Tulia after submitting their resignation on Monday.

That is when they went out to see the facilities, further in the video claims were made that the kennels were not being cleaned regularly alluding to the dogs being mistreated.

Tulia Police Chief, Paul Brown says that isn't true.

"We have in place, plans for the pound to be cleaned daily, for the animals to be fed and watered daily. We are at capacity, however the animals are being taken care of."

Casey Minier with Gracie's Project understands the struggles the pound is facing and believes that with the right person in the animal control role, things can get better for the dogs out there.

Chief Brown says those plans are already in place.

"Animal control falls under us, and so we are responsible for the pound and we have a few applications for animal control officer and we'll schedule those interviews for next week and hopefully have that position filled pretty quick."
