AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Railroad Museum received a $36,000 grant from the Texas Historical Commission for renovations to Pantex's "White Train" displayed at the museum.

The train was donated to the Amarillo Railroad Museum by the Department of Energy and Pantex and is currently displayed at the museum.

The grant will be used to renovate the roofs of six nuclear weapons transport cars on the train.

The $36,000 grant will be matched by the museum for a total amount of $72,000 for renovations.

The Amarillo Railroad Museum considers this the first step in a long-range project to restore the White Train to its original condition, as it is considered a historical artifact in Amarillo and across the United States.

The museum also hopes to develop an interactive display presenting the history of nuclear weapons transport by rail, including positive and negative arguments regarding the form of transportation.
