A new boxing event is coming to Ascarate Park.

WarriorsEdge Boxing Gym, in association with the El Paso County and the El Paso Sports Commission, announced on Tuesday a new event they are calling "Boxing at the Lake."

On Saturday, July 20, organizers plan to host 20 to 25 amateur boxing bouts with fighters ages eight to 25 at Ascarate Park.

Promoters promise the event will look professional and will introduce amateur boxers- many of them kids from At-Risk mentorship programs- like professional boxers.

There will also be vendors and food trucks on site.

Tickets are $20 and are available online through Ticketmaster or in person at the El Paso County Coliseum box office, the WarriorsEdge Boxing Gym located at 3465 Lee Boulevard #233, near Loma Linda Park in east El Paso or in Ascarate Park on the night of the fight.

To more comfortably enjoy the event promoters suggest attendees bring lawn chairs to sit.

WarriorsEdge Boxing Promoter Luis Trevino said free tickets will be handed out at El Paso boxing gyms for both this event and the upcoming Ring Wars.

El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said hosting boxing bouts at Ascarate Park is a great move to get borderland residents to rediscover the park.

The great thing- you got Ascarate- one of the most iconic places. I keep saying to everybody 'You need to rediscover once again Ascarate Park' because we have so many people that love Ascarate Park that haven't been here and we got to bring them in and what better way to bring them in than with boxing something that is so iconic," Samaniego said.
