Amtrak derailment disrupted service in Roanoke

A.Kim36 min ago

An Amtrak train came off its tracks in Roanoke early Wednesday, the company reports, but no one was injured.

At about 6 a.m., as a train "moved at a low speed from the terminal to the platform, wheels of a railcar came off the track," Amtrak Senior Public Relations Manager Kimberly Woods said in an email Thursday. "One railcar was on the ground. The other railcars and engine remained upright."

The derailment caused a disruption in the train's service, Woods said, but there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident.

"There are no reported injuries to crew members," Woods said. "We provided alternate transportation for passengers traveling from Roanoke to Washington, D.C."
