Angel Reese’s Potential Reunion With 5-Star LSU Starlet Receives Chicago Sky Fans’ Distaste

The WNBA Draft Lottery officially wrapped up yesterday, and with it, the top four picks have been solidified. However, for the Chicago Sky, the draft process was a bit more complicated. Entering with a slight disadvantage due to the Marina Mabrey trade to the Dallas Wings in 2023, the Sky were never in contention for the top pick. As a result, they secured the third pick in the draft. Now, with that pick in place, fans are offering up a mix of hopes and predictions if an LSU star can team up with Angel Reese to strengthen their roster.

The WNBA Draft Lottery had the Chicago Sky with the third-highest odds at 22.7% to land the top pick, but things didn't play out as expected. Angel Reese was on hand to represent Chicago at the lottery event, but in the end, she had to accept the third pick for the Sky.

Even though the draft isn't until April, there's already some buzz around player rankings, thanks to mock drafts giving us an early glimpse of potential picks. One name that stands out is Aneesah Morrow, former LSU teammate of Angel Reese, who could be making her pro debut next season. While it's still up in the air where she'll land, there's a chance she could end up in Chicago.

Despite the uncertainty, fans are already buzzing with excitement, sharing their predictions and speculating on the likelihood of it happening.

Will Aneesah Morrow Make a Dream Homecoming to Chicago? Angel Reese spent two incredible years at LSU, leading the team to their first-ever championship in 2023. Along the way, she built strong friendships, including with teammates Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow. While her relationship with Johnson has hit a rough patch in recent months, her excitement for Morrow remains unchanged. In fact, on her podcast, Angel shared that Morrow is her favorite LSU player to watch this season .

Moreover, now, under the leadership of Tyler Marsh, the Chicago Sky are eyeing a fresh start with his new vision for the team. Adding Morrow to their young core could be the perfect move. It didn't take long for fans to catch on to the possibility, as one of them started making the case on X.

"I would take Aneesah Morrow at 3! #skytown"

But not everyone agrees. If there is one thing that the Sky has made clear regarding their aims for the next season, it is the 3-point shooting. Marsh is looking to get his players to pick up the pace there and one believes Sonia Citron could be a good fit, given: 1. Morrow has just 1 3-point attempt in the last 5 games 2. the LA Sparks are considering Olivia Miles, who was projected to be Sky's pick and 3. Morrow is slipping up in the draft predictions.

"All this mess is confusing I can definitely see LA picking Olivia so some people may need to think. Aneesah has dropped to 5 on tankathon. They want length and a shooter I say Sonia at 3. If they can get Aneesah I'm not against it."

"Sonia for possibly 3"

Morrow, originally from Chicago, would have a special homecoming if she were to land with the Sky. It would be a dream scenario. However, one fan pointed out that there are rumors suggesting Morrow might not be eager to return to her hometown, casting some doubt on the idea of her joining Chicago.

"I thought someone said Nees didn't want to go home?"

With the Chicago Sky currently lacking a solid, guaranteed guard—especially with Chenedy Carter being a free agent and Marina Mabrey traded to the Connecticut Sun earlier in the 2024 season—some fans have voiced concerns about Morrow's fit on the team. As a forward, fans believe Morrow might not be the immediate solution to the Sky's backcourt needs, and the franchise would be better off targeting a guard to fill that crucial role.

"No doesn't fit doesn't help with spacing"

"They need guards bad tho "

Morrow is currently averaging 15.5 points and 12.3 rebounds, managing 20-point performances thrice in the last five games. She is currently ranked around 5th and 6th in predictions with Kiki Iriafen and Dominique Malonga, making the top. So Sky's decision can only be expected to unfold with time.
