Angela's A-list accessories! Deputy PM sports wacky flamingo socks and 'punk' loafers as she arrives in Westminster on budget day

While Brits should be focused on Chancellor Rachel Reeves and her delivery of the all-important budget, it seems people are distracted by her colleague's feet.

Angela Rayner , 44, rocked up to Downing Street this morning to attend a Cabinet meeting ahead of the budget in platform loafers with a bold purple zig-zagged sole.

With metal hoops piercing the toe cap, her quirky footwear costs £70 from the Gensai Cyber Punk range by Manchester-based vegan footwear brand Koi.

The deputy prime minister, who made history in 2015 as Ashton-under-Lyne's first ever female MP, paired the alternative shoe choice with a pair of flamingo socks.

Rayner stepped out of a blacked-out car in a jade green suit with her ginger hair down in tresses and her mobile phone swinging at her side from a strap.

Born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Rayner left school at 16 with no qualifications when she became pregnant.

She later trained in social care and became a trade union representative, during which time she joined the Labour Party.

In 2015, Rayner was elected as the MP for Ashton-Under-Lyne and rose through the ranks to take up various shadow ministerial positions.

The proud northerner is now the Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

With her long chestnut hair, and penchant for a dash of leopard print, the eye is drawn to her on the front bench.

Rayner is fond of a platform shoe: she's worn them at various points - both in office and on the campaign trail - as they are comfortable while still providing height.

Whilst canvassing in West Lothian with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar in June, she wore Marvel superhero socks featuring comic book characters Thor and Black Panther.

Rayner matched her cartoon socks with a pair of £139 Carvela Connected laceless trainers while meeting parents at the Broxburn Family and Community Development Centre.

Labour's deputy leader seems to have a soft spot for Scotland as she has a pair of red tartan Dr Martens boots in her eclectic footwear collection.

Rayner has also turned heads with vegan leopard print boots and black platforms decorated with colourful flowers .

She sported the latter - £27.50 vegan leather Lamoda In Bloom sneakers - at an unveiling of a statue of pioneering Labour firebrand and former Blackburn MP Barbara Castle.

In another landmark win for Labour's women, today Rachel Reeves will be the first woman to deliver a Budget.

Ms Reeves said she is 'deeply proud' to make history as the first female Chancellor.

At the start of the budget, she issued a heartwarming message to girls and women in the UK, and said: 'Let there be no ceiling on your hopes, ambitions and dreams'.
