Anthony Mackie says nerdy kid got robbed 3 times on 'Black Mirror' episode

It's not easy making television, and Black Mirror has more challenges than most shows. The sci-fi anthology series, which began on the U.K.'s Channel 4 before moving to Netflix with season 3, changes its cast of characters every episode — not to mention its setting, tone, and content.

The international production films all around the world, and Anthony Mackie tells Entertainment Weekly in a new interview that one member of the crew had a particularly difficult (and recurring) problem when filming his season 5 episode of the show.

"We shot this episode of Black Mirror in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and there was this little nerdy kid, really cool kid, who worked on this, and in the course of four days, he got robbed three times," Mackie says. "Every time he left the hotel, someone would come behind him and push him behind a dumpster and take his s-. So after the third time, he couldn't leave the hotel, so he was locked in the hotel for two months! Sad little f-. True story though. Nobody robbed me!"

Representatives for Netflix did not immediately respond to EW's request for additional information on this anecdote.

Mackie starred in the first episode of Black Mirror season 5. Titled "Striking Vipers," he played a man named Danny Parker who reconnects with his best friend Karl Houghton (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) by playing a virtual reality fighting game in the vein of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. But it turns out there's more to the game than fighting, and Danny and Karl begin having sex in the game as their avatars — an experience that they prove unable to replicate in real life.

In the full video interview, which you can watch below, Mackie shares more stories from various other movies and TV shows he's starred in over the years; for instance, Mackie made his film debut in Eminem 's 2002 star vehicle 8 Mile as Papa Doc, a rival rapper to Eminem's B-Rabbit. But the main thing Mackie remembers from that production is an incredible confrontation he witnessed at an afterparty.

"There used to be this club in downtown Detroit called Marilyn's on Monroe," Mackie says. "Em was the biggest at that time. He rented out the top floor and had a party for us to chill out and have a good time. This guy tried to come up, they wouldn't let him come up."

Mackie memorably details what happened next: "He got in a fight with security, and he fought security all the way downstairs. Then, security threw him outside. He threw a trashcan through the front window, came in, fought security some more, and left. And while he was leaving, he said, 'I'm coming back next week!'"
