Apartment fire causes partial building collapse in Fort Worth Friday night

A fire caused a partial building collapse and damaged 16 apartments Friday night in Fort Worth, officials with the fire department said. Crews responded to the La Jolla Terrace Apartments in the 8900 block of Randol Mill Road at around 9:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from an upstairs unit of a two-story apartment, a department statement read. In order to supply their trucks with water, crews had to run hoses to fire hydrants across the street. Traffic passing down the street ran over the fire hoses, causing them to burst and creating difficulties with supplying enough water to fight the fire, officials said. At the same time, the fire intensified, part of the building collapsed, and the incident commander called a second alarm, the release stated. It took 50 firefighters a little over an hour to get the fire under control after shifting their tactics to fight the fire from the outside. Volunteers from the Red Cross were on the scene to assist displaced residents, fire department officials said. One person reported an injury, but was not found at the scene, officials said. The search for clues after a U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper fighter brought down a still-unidentified object over Lake Huron in February 2023 did result in the recovery of debris, it has been disclosed. The new details continue to raise more questions about the downing of this and two other mystery objects that same month in American and Canadian skies, and why more information has not been made public. Canada's CTV News first reported earlier today on the previously unannounced debris recovery, which was part of the search for whatever was left of what had been sailing through the sky above Lake Huron on Feb. 12, 2023.
