Arch Manning time in Austin? Texas’ Steve Sarkisian names starting QB for Saturday vs. ULM

It's Arch Time in Austin, at least for now.

Arch Manning will make his first career start at quarterback for top-ranked Texas on Saturday vs. Louisiana-Monroe, head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday. Manning will fill in for starter Quinn Ewers, who is out indefinitely after suffering an abdominal strain in the first half of last week's 56-7 win over UT-San Antonio.

Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Peyton and Eli, replaced Ewers behind center for the Longhorns vs. UTSA. He completed 9 of 12 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns, and also ran for a 67-yard score.

It's not entirely clear how long Ewers might be sidelined, though reporters around the program have speculated the target date for his return is the Oct. 12 Red River Rivalry game vs. Oklahoma in Dallas. Texas (3-0) travels to Mississippi State next week, then has an open date before facing the Sooners.

Kickoff for Texas vs. Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) is set for 7 p.m. at DRK-Memorial Stadium. The game will stream live via ESPN+/SECN+.
