YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – First News welcomed some special students to our television station on Friday.

They are part of the Kent State Rising Scholars program. The group is made up of students in 7th through 12th grades throughout Columbiana County.

It is a nonprofit program that follows the students through high school and includes mentoring, field trips and scholarships. More than 130 kids take part.

A big portion of the program is learning about different careers. In addition to WKBN/WYTV, students have visited Goodyear in Akron and the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

Also part of the program is free tuition to Kent State Salem and Kent State East Liverpool.
