Arsenal player supports hostel team in charity football match

Hostel football teams will be competing in an annual charity tournament, honouring the challenges rough sleepers face.

Residents and staff from Logos House hostel in Bristol are being supported by former Arsenal player John Hartson to take part in the Salvation Army Partnership Trophy.

The event is in its 13th year, and 30 teams from Salvation Army's hostels across the UK will take part.

Logos House resident Steven, who became homeless after his father moved into a care home, said playing football gives him "peace of mind".

"It keeps me motivated and gives a structure to my day.

"I love the atmosphere and being part of a team. It's keeping me really active as well and football helps me with my mental health.

"I've been to The Partnership Trophy before, I can't wait for it.

"I count down the days and I'm first up on the day making sure everyone has a healthy breakfast and no sugar in their tea," he said.

Nathan Slinn from the Salvation Army, said the annual trophy "celebrates everyone within our homelessness services".

"It acknowledges the journey they are on to be the best version of themselves while recognising the challenges that many have had to overcome," he added.

The trophy event starts on Monday.
