Ashlie Spiker projected to keep Iberia Parish Assessor seat
IBERIA PARISH, La. () — Ashlie Spiker appears to have won her first election for Iberia Parish Tax Assessor after first stepping into the role earlier this year when the former parish assessor stepped out.
Spiker was the favorite among early voters with 7,738 early votes in her favor, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State website. David Groner was second with 3,113 early votes. Raymond "Shoe-Do" Lewis was third with 2,349 early votes.
At 9:05 p.m., 37 of 55 precincts revealed their results. At that time, Spiker was in the lead with 56% of votes (12,843). Groner in second with 25% (5,628) of votes and Lewis in third with 19% (4,443).
Jeanerette native began working at the Iberia Parish Assessor's Office 20 years ago. In 2021, Spiker was appointed as Chief Deputy by former Iberia Parish Tax Assessor Taylor Barras. She was then sworn in as the Iberia Parish Tax Assessor earlier this year after Barras vacated his seat.
During campaigning, Spiker said she is devoted to continuing her work in property assessment and hopes to bring new ideas to the parish, such as a new app to communicate with residents about any questions or issues they may have.

Lewis is an Iberia Parish School Board member. He ran for assessor's office because he felt there needed to be a change and that he is the one who could do it.
During campaigning, Lewis said if he was elected as parish assessor, he would focus on changing the current environment of the office, allow more transparency and better serve the people in Iberia Parish.
He has described himself as a "fighter for the people."
Groner is a long-time attorney with years of experience in title work and at the Clerk of Court's Office.
During campaigning, Groner said there needed to be a change in the office of the parish assessor. One of his main priorities was building a better online presence to allow more transparency so people can know what is going on.
