Athlete of the Week: Bruce Littleton
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Plenty of players have made big plays throughout the week, including one senior leader over at Vestavia Hills High School.
Senior halfback Bruce Littleton helped lead the Rebels to a statement 28-14 win over the defending 6A state champions, the Clay-Chalkville Cougars. This put the Rebels above .500 to end the regular season.
Littleton is known for what he could do on the mound in baseball, but he was also solid on the ground despite overcoming a knee injury, finishing the game with 65 rushing yards on 11 carries, six receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
"I really wanted to make a statement to help my team." Littleton said. "It's like what Coach Evans said, this was a statement game for our community because that is who we play for. We play for our families; our community and I play for my people."
Vestavia would win their first round game in the 7A State playoffs Thursday night with a 42-21 win over Mary-Montgomery. The Rebels await their next round opponent and will play the winner of Central-Phenix City/ James Clemens.
