Athletic Awards Breakfast Honors Senior Letter Winners

Recently, the Greater Nanticoke Area School District held an Athletic
Awards Breakfast in the cafeteria of the high school to honor senior letter
winners, three sport letter winners, all stars and individual sport
achievements. High school English teacher and awards emcee James Carey singled
out Nanticoke Area Athletic Director Gerald Bavitz, who organized the
breakfast, as well as Ken James, Athletic Chairman of the Greater Nanticoke
Area Board of Education for being a “strong proponent of sports in the Greater
Nanticoke Area.”
All stars honored were:
Football: Todd Bargella, Scott Pristas, Mark Kowalski and Ron Bruza
Basketball: Luke Malishchak (Conference Most Valuable Player), Todd
Bargella, Jennifer Blasi (Conference Most Valuable Player) and Heatther Roback
Soccer: Luke Malishchak and Erica Roback
Volleyball: Lauren Kurkowski and Heather Roback
Wrestling: Derek Sheruda, Jeremy Baer
Cross Country: Mike Forgach, Steve Baran and Joe Grady (Conference Most
Valuable Player)
Golf: Neil Bavitz
Three letter winners honored were: Scott Pristas, Kim Heffron, Derek
Sheruda, John Bushko, Ryan Amos, Joe Grady, Lauren Kurkowski, Sean Toole, Mike
Forgach, Matt Titus, Jennifer Blasi, Jared Zoller, Becky Katra, Luke
Malishchak and Jeremy Baer.
Baseball Awards:
Louisville Slugger Award: Matt Titus with a batting average of .375
Unsung Hero Award: Derek Sheruda
“Dada” Kashatus Award: Sean Toole
Most Valuable Player: Matt Titus
Softball Awards:
Offensive Player: Jen Rakowski with a batting average of .352
