Attorneys General call for peaceful transition of power after general election

Now that most of the results from Tuesday's (Nov. 5, 2024) general election in the United States are known, Attorneys General across the country urge citizens to support a peaceful transition of power. A bi-partisan group of 51 Attorneys General, including South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, say the peaceful transition of power is part the nation's democratic system. The attorneys say regardless of the outcome, they expect Americans to respond peacefully and condemn any acts of violence related to the results. The Attorneys General hope every American respects the integrity of the democratic process. They say violence has no place in the democratic process and they will use their authority to prosecute any illegal acts that threaten it. Other Attorneys General calling for a non-violent response are from: Alabama, Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Northern Mariana Islands, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
