Auditor DiZoglio pushes legislature for records

V.Rodriguez6 hr ago
BOSTON (WWLP) – With the support of Massachusetts voters behind her, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio is renewing her push for records she needs to complete a legislative audit.

Auditor DiZoglio notified the state legislature on Friday that she is renewing a previous probe into the legislature that her office was unable to complete due to missing information. DiZoglio promised this audit would "cover all of the topics [her office was] unable to fully review in our previous audit, due to [the legislature's] refusal to participate in the audit process."

The Auditor noted that after the audit is released, state lawmakers will have the opportunity to review and make comments on the draft copy.

Before Election Day, the senate president and speaker of the house vehemently opposed the question and accused the auditor of using her office inappropriately to promote her ballot campaign.

Just after the question passed, their offices released a statement saying "[they] will consider next steps regarding how to best respect the Question 1 election results in a manner that aligns with the fundamental principles of the Massachusetts Constitution, including separation of powers.," leaving the door open for repeals.

Auditor DiZoglio requested the records in a 72-hour timeframe, but it isn't yet clear if lawmakers will comply.
