Austin Westlake's school district ranked No. 1 in Texas

The school district behind one of the most famous high schools in the country now stands alone as the best in the state. Not only that, the school district known for producing some of the nation's best athletes was ranked among the Top 10 best in the country .

Eanes ISD in Travis County took the No. 1 spot on Niche's 2025 report for the best school districts in Texas , beating out districts like Carroll ISD, Allen ISD and Katy ISD as the top district in the Lone Star State. Additionally, Niche ranked Eanes ISD as the No. 7 best school district in America, jumping ahead of Palo Alto United School District in California to clinch its ranking.

"Being recognized as a top school district in the State and nation is a testament to Eanes ISD's unwavering commitment to providing a world-class, innovative education," Eanes ISD wrote in a statement to MySA. "Our mission goes beyond academic success; we prepare our students to meet future challenges and seize new opportunities. This achievement is a reflection of the extraordinary dedication of our teachers and staff, the excellence and hard work of our students and the invaluable support of our community."

Eanes ISD is home to Austin Westlake High School, West Ridge Middle School, Hill Country Middle School and six elementary schools, housing a total of 7,733 students . The district has a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1, with 77% of students "at least proficient" in math and 83% in reading, according to Niche. Teachers reportedly earn an annual salary of $56,133. Overall, Eanes ISD was ranked No. 5 among districts with the best teachers in Texas .

With an average graduation rate of 99%, the students' three most popular colleges are the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University and Rice University. However the district did receive a B- for diversity in Niche's report.

Unsurprisingly, Eanes ISD was ranked the No. 4 best district for athletes in Texas . Austin Westlake High School has won 47 state titles across 12 sports and the Chaparrals have produced dozens of professional athletes in their 50+ years. Those famed alumni include football stars Drew Brees, Nick Foles, Justin Tucker, Sam Ehlinger, Cade Klubnik, MLB players Huston Street and Kelly Gruber, NCAA basketball champion KJ Adams Jr. and Olympians Josh Ilika and Scott Spann.
