Ava Martin's 15 kills power No. 6 Creighton volleyball to sweep of Xavier

Ava Martin had 15 kills, Norah Sis had 12 and the No. 6 Creighton volleyball team swept Xavier 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 at Sokol Arena on Friday night.

The Big East-leading Bluejays (16-2, 7-0), who have won nine straight matches, hit .342 as setter Kendra Wait finished with 37 assists.

Martin hit .467, Sis hit .310 and Jaya Johnson added eight kills on .357 hitting.

Maddy Bilinovic had 18 digs to lead CU, which held Xavier to .173 hitting and had nine service aces.

The Jays used an early 5-0 run to take control of the first set and finished with a 4-0 run, winning on the first of Wait's two kills.

The Musketeers (6-11, 4-3) led the second set 13-12 before CU went on a 6-1 run. Sis ended the set with a kill.

Xavier was within 15-13 in the third set, but the Jays pulled away with a 9-2 run. The Musketeers fended off four match points before a service error ended the match.

CU will host DePaul at 1 p.m. Sunday in the annual Pink Out match.
