Award-winning non-profit provides free, quality clothing to women and children in need
, based in Sterling, Virginia, was recently named non-profit of the year by the .
And, it's easy to see why.
"We have everything from casual wear to professional wear," said Nicole Morris with Women Giving Back.
The boutique isn't what it appears.
"Today, I am looking for work pants," said client Clara Cosen-Woolfolk.
Cosen-Woolfolk needs new work outfits. That means digging deep into her wallet.
"Good clothes are not cheap," remarked Cosen-Woolfolk.
But what this retired Navy Veteran walked away with on this day cost her nothing.
"It's amazing what these guys do for us, for the veterans, their families. They are amazing,"Cosen-Woolfolk added.
This space, filled with rows of clothes for all ages, isn't a retail outlet. It's where the non-profit Women Giving Back provides women and their children with free clothing.
"Families that were on limited income, they can't even afford to shop at the thrift stores at this time,"Morris said.
Morris said her clients include those re-entering the workforce, fleeing domestic violence, or emerging from incarceration.
"We've seen a 33% increase in the number of clients we serve," added Morris.
This day, is a special one.
"Today is our shop with honor event and it's one of the two days a year that we open up for the military community," said Morris
"We're just so privileged and honored to be serving and also having an opportunity for a place like this," saidPhillip Rubalcava.
Phillip Rubalcava, active-duty Air Force, shopped with his family for much-needed winter attire having relocated from California.
"So, last year we realized how unprepared we were for the snow so we were actually looking for some jackets for the kids," added Rubalcava.
For Clara Cosen-Woolfolk, a 22-year retired Veteran, Women Giving Back checks a very big box.
"They are the epitome of what hometown blessings are," concluded Cosen-Woolfolk.
