Back Mt. Boys Handle Junior Foe

DALLAS – Josh Shaver went all seven innings to pick up the win as Back
Mountain defeated Duryea 6-1 Friday in the winners bracket final of the
District 16 Junior Baseball tournament.

Shaver allowed only five hits while striking out three and added two hits
at the plate. Bobby Parent had a pair of hits for Back Mountain, and Michael
Eckman tripled.
Nick Poplarchik led Duryea with two hits.


Fort-Swoyer 8, Avoca-Dupont 3

AVOCA – Ryan Pugh smacked a pair of home runs and knocked in three runs to
lead Fort-Swoyer in a losers bracket game.

Chris Pollick struck out nine on his way to picking up the win. He also
added a single and a double.

Lucas Harvey had two hits for Fort-Swoyer including a double, and Chris
O’Hara also doubled.

D-16 9-10 Year Old Baseball


Ashley/Newtown 15, Northwest 5 (4)

SHICKSHINNY – David Redmond pitched all four innings of Ashley/Newtown’s


Brian McGlynn, Matt Kocher, Zack Kollar and Darrin Lupou all had two hits
for Ashley/Newtown.

Bruno Walkowiak had Northwest’s only hit.

D16 11-Year-Old Softball


Mountain Top 10, Back Mt. 9

WRIGHT TWP. – Nicole Iagnemma doubled in Lindsay Brown and Lindsey Kastreva
with the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning for Mountain Top.

Brown also had two doubles. She and Stacy Warga, who singled, pitched the
victory.

Alissa Monaghan and Sara Flaherty each had a double for Back Mountain. Sara
Perry struck out four.

D16 11-Year-Old Baseball


Mountain Top 7, Back Mountain American 6

DALLAS — Luke Bernardo had three hits, David Knight had a two-run homer
and Jesse Quintilani added a pair of singles for Mountain Top.

Alex Zubko and Jason Schilling had two hits each for American.

Januzzi’s 11-12 Tournament


Wyoming/West Wyoming 17, Northwest 7

WYOMING – Winning pitcher David Drahus struck out nine and collected four
hits, including a triple, at the plate.

Kyle Colarusso had a double and single for Wyoming/West Wyoming. Nick
Perugini had two hits, while Randy McDermott and Robert Brzozowski added one
each.

Justin Cornell had three hits and Justin Mausteller added two for
Northwest.


Nanticoke 12, Pittston 0 (4)

WYOMING – Zach Lycett struck out eight and only allowed two hits to pick up
the win and lead Nanticoke.

Dave Labenski had two hits, including a home run, for the winners. John
Ivan and Brian Bevan each had two hits.

Kyle Callahan and Dominic Lussi had the only hits for Pittston.
