BANGOR - Media lovers and cosplayers of all ages piled into the Cross Insurance Center this weekend for the return of the Bangor Comic and Toy Con.

This was the fifth year of what organizers call "Pure geek fun," at the Cross Center.

Highlights of the event include the celebrity meet and greets and over one hundred vendors and artists from all over the country.

Organizers say this year also featured many nods to Stephen King's "Pet Sematary" for the 35th anniversary of the film adaptation. Including the original truck from the movie, which was recently restored, and several cast members from the production.

"It's a very safe space for creativity, we want people to have fun we want people to be comfortable in who they are and embrace their nerd-dom, said vendor Christine Akridge, owner of Akridge Artistry.

A number of event-goers and volunteers say the best part is sharing their unique interests with others.

"It's so heartwarming to see these kids enjoying themselves, coming out of their shell you can tell, just being themselves and just having fun," said Christy Tripp, volunteer and also known as "Con Mom" at the event.

According to organizers they will be returning to Bangor again next year but under a new name. Moving forward it will be known as the "Queen City Expo," though it will still be the same convention.
