Barnhouse shooter sentenced to 23 months
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Republic man who injured six people in a shooting at The Barnhouse event center has been sentenced to 23 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a gun.
Timothy Johnell Smith, who was working security at the entertainment venue on New Year's Eve 2023, was sentenced Thursday (11/7/24) in federal court in Springfield.
A news release from the Department of Justice states that a witness told deputies Smith had tried to break up a fight between several people by firing an AR-style rifle into the ceiling. Additional witnesses reported four to five additional gunshots.
Smith, 38, has prior convictions for burglary, receiving stolen property and theft of a motor vehicle. Federal law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a felony to have any firearm or ammunition.
