Bay City Public Schools transitions to 2nd interim superintendent

BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) - The second interim superintendent of Bay City Public Schools (BCPS) began his role in the position on Friday, Nov. 15.

According to Matthew Felan, president of the BCPS Board of Education, interim superintendent Michael Sharrow, who began his the role on Aug. 22, concluded his time with the school district on Friday, Nov. 15. Rick Seebeck is now taking over the role.

"On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire district, I extend our gratitude to Mr. Sharrow for his steady leadership and dedication over the past several months. His commitment to our students, staff, and families has been invaluable during this time of change," Felan said.

Sharrow became interim superintendent on Aug. 22 after Dr. Stephen Bigelow retired from his role as the BCPS superintendent.

It was announced on Oct. 16 that Seebeck was hired to be the second interim superintendent. Previously, he was the superintendent for Gladwin Schools for 18 years before retiring in July 2023.

Felan said Seebeck brings a wealth of experience, strong ties to Bay City, and a deep commitment to education to the role. He will remain on the job until a permanent superintendent is selected.

As BCPS continues searching for its next superintendent, Felan asks all families, staff, and community members to participate in feedback opportunities on the district's website .
