Bayern Munich 'draw up five-man striker shortlist to provide competition for Harry Kane' - with some of Europe's most highly-rated forwards 'under consideration' for a move

Bayern Munich have drawn up a four-man shortlist in their hunt for a new striker, according to a report.

The German giants are still in a rebuilding stage after missing out on a trophy last season, but are top of the Bundesliga in this campaign under former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany .

Things aren't going as swimmingly in Europe, with Kompany's men having suffered two defeats in three games - by Aston Villa and, last time out Barcelona - and are aiming to bounce back this evening against Benfica.

Goals certainly haven't been a problem for the club, with England captain Harry Kane still leading the line and netting 17 goals in 14 games so far this campaign. Bayern do, however, struggle for depth in that department.

With Kane the only recognised No 9 at the club, Kompany and Co are thought to be ready to dip into the transfer market to sign another option. And according to German publication BILD , there are four players that the club are looking at.

The first name on the list is Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres , who netted a hat-trick against Manchester City in Ruben Amorim 's final home game in charge of the club on Tuesday.

Gyokeres has been a goal machine since joining Sporting from Coventry, and has scored 23 times in just 17 matches this campaign. He has also been linked with Manchester United and a general move to the Premier League.

Another name on the list is Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, who is also reported to be of interest from United. He had previously been linked with Arsenal.

Sesko's team-mate, Lois Openda, is also reported to be under consideration, with the 24-year-old finding the net six time so far this season, including five times in the league.

He has often played alongside Sesko, though one of the forwards, according to the report, could soon be set to make the step up in the Bundesliga.

The final name on the list is Omar Marmoush, who is a regular with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has netted 12 goals in 14 games this year, and has already reached double figures in the Bundesliga.

It is also reported that Marmoush is of interest from Liverpool, meaning Bayern may have to compete with a number of Premier League sides to secure a target.

They would also face the issue of trying to guarantee any incoming player game time. Any star would almost definitely be an understudy to Kane, with Kompany often employing a 4-2-3-1 system with a lone striker - Kane.

For someone like Gyokeres, he would want guaranteed minutes as he's at the top of his game, meaning a move would prove difficult.

It's also likely that Bayern would have to part with a sizeable fee if they were to make any sort of bid for the likes of Gyokeres or Sesko.

Bayern are yet to lose in the league this season as they look to get back on track domestically, but need to improve in Europe if they are to reach the next stage of the Champions League.
