COLLEGE STATION — Baylor's cross country teams had a hard time beating the traffic after traveling Highway 6.

The Baylor women finished sixth out of 16 teams while the Baylor men were ninth in a 14-team field at the Texas A&M Invitational before an announced crowd of 5,540 on Friday morning at the Watts Cross Country Course.

The BU women tallied 198 points, finishing behind the top five of SMU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Tulane and TCU. Sophomore Ruth Kimeli from Kenya made her debut for the Bears and led the team in 15th place. She was in first at the 2K mark before fading later and finishing with a time of 17:48.1.

Ella Perry of Harker Heights was the next Baylor finisher in 32nd.

The Baylor men were paced by Nick Hruskoci, a grad transfer from Wisconsin who like Kimeli was making his BU debut. Hruskoci ran 24:23.8 over the 8K course to finish 26th.

Freshman Jack Sterrett of Midway finished at 24:40.0 in 37th place in his first college race.

Baylor's next meet will be the Missouri-hosted Gans Creek Classic on Sept. 27.
