If you're driving down Bitters Road whether it's around the intersection at Huebner Road or further down to past Highway 281, there's a wide range of food options on the San Antonio road.

We complied a list of some of the best locally owned spots the San Antonio road has to offer. From burgers at Benjie's Munch to New York-style pizza at Sofia's Pizzeria, Bitters Road has something for every San Antonian in need of a satisfying bite to eat.

Benjie's Munch

It's simply impossible to leave Benjie's Munch in a bad mood. After all, chef Benjie's motto is, "every bite is the best bite." Having gained years of culinary/restaurant experience since the age of 15, chef Benjie stays dedicated to a hearty menu of comforting burgers, famous grilled cheese options, sandwiches and more.

Amid the vast array of bites, burgers and more, the signature Benjie's cocoa barbacoa taco continues to standout, just shy of the eatery's 10 year anniversary in 2025.

Burger Boy

It's not a trip down any San Antonio road without a Burger Boy location. Serving up affordable burger specials since 1985, Burger Boy has ben billed previously as " the home of the working man ."

With the eponymous special of the same name, consisting of a double patty burger, a large fries, and a large drink for only $9.79, it's easy to see why the locally owned chain continues to expand rapidly across San Antonio.

Cosa Nostra

The intimate Italian eatery is a rarity — dedicating an entire section of their menu to vegan options, Cosa Nostra has pizza, spaghetti and even "cheesy" garlic bread for guests with certain dietary restrictions. That's in addition to their regular array of New York-style pizzas, pastas and calzones that they've been serving up since 2017.

El Bucanero

A San Antonio staple for two decades and counting, El Bucanero prides themselves on fresh mariscos, straight from the sea to your plate. In addition to their extensive array of fresh seafood dishes, El Bucanero also has plenty of authentic Mexican plates like carne asada, enchiladas and more. There's also a full bar.

Los Balito's Taco Shop

Perfect for that late night taco craving (they're open 24 hours a day, seven days a week after all), Los Balito's has plenty of affordable Tex-Mex bites for the local on the go. Craving a original California-style burrito, with steak, potatoes, pico de gallo and cheese? Los Balito's has that too. Other satisfying menu options include super nachos with your choice of chicken or beef, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and refried beans, tacos, tortas, tostadas and enchiladas.

Max & Louie's Diner

Once upon a time, the two Russian immigrants that inspired Max & Louie's Diner built lives for themselves and their families on the East Coast, creating Glick Brothers Butcher Stores in Brooklyn, Owner Drew Glick drew inspiration from his grandfather and great uncle, crafting an authentic New York style diner on the heart on Bitters Road, complete with cold and hot deli sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and more.

Even better? Max & Louie's has a new, bakery-style expansion in the works — Melvin's.

Meadow Neighborhood Eatery & Bar

Tucked away in the Alley on Bitters, Meadow Neighborhood Eatery & Bar screams date night — whether it be a solo dining date , or with a significant other. How apt that the cozy Bitters eatery was founded by husband and wife duo PJ and Lindsey Edwards. Having first opened their doors in 2018, the couple's dedication to seasonal Southern cuisine with a true Texas twist has kept locals well fed for six years and counting.

Naples Italian Ristorante & Pizza

Serving up Neopolitan-style pizza (specific to the Naples region in Italy), Naples Italian Ristorante & Pizza has been a South Texas mainstay since the early 90s. So what is a Neopolitan-style pizza exactly?

While there are certain variations, said style of pizza usually consists of tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and olive oil. The Naples Italian Ristorante's spin on the specific regional stye of pizza includes house-made Italian sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, extra cheese, bacon, meatballs and onion.

Sofia's Pizzeria

At Sofia's Pizzeria, every slice comes with a hearty helping of community service. Named for the owner Alan White's beloved daughter, Sofia's Pizzeria specializes in New York-style pizzas, calzones, pastas, wings and more.

The Bitters Road location is the third spot for Sofia's — despite their rapid growth across San Antonio, the pizzeria has never stalled on its dedication to community. Every month, Sofia's partners with a different children's nonprofit organization, donating 35 cents from every pizza sold to their monthly charity of choice.

San Antonio loves a great all-you-can-eat sushi bar.

Take advantage of Sushi Haya's all-you-can-eat lunch special for only $19.99 every Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The dinner special, priced at $29.95, is available seven days a week. Sushi Haya also has plenty of affordable bento box options, and even hibachi plates.

On the cusp of celebrating 10 years at the Alley on Bitters in 2025, The Bread Box continues to specialize in freshly baked pastries, pies, sandwiches and more. They have fresh bread baking in the ovens well before the sun rises, with plenty of options for breakfast, lunch and special events (their custom cakes for example, are a treat for the eyes and mouth.)

The Melting Pot

If you've never experienced fondue before, head on over to The Melting Pot, ASAP.

The original fondue restaurant dips into a variety of options for guests — from steak fondue, multiple cheese experiences, and even a vegetarian option. You can build your own fondue date from the extensive a la carte menu, or partake in The Melting Pot's pre-fixed menus. And yes, you can have wine with the chocolate fondue option. It's practically mandatory.
