CHARLESTON — Betty Jean McComas, 99, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 at her home.

Her graveside Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Mound Cemetery, Charleston. Arrangements: Harper-Swickard.

Betty was born December 24, 1924 at Charleston, daughter of Everett M. and Ruth I. (Bennett) Curtis. She married Robert C. McComas in 1976. He passed away July 29, 1993. She is survived by her children, Connie Jean Myers and husband, Kenneth of Charleston, Michael L. Murphy and wife, Patty of Oakland, and Robert M. Murphy and wife, Karen of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Todd Cooley and wife, Rustye, Shea Huddleston (Jamie Moffett), Matthew Murphy, Zach Murphy, Margot Nikitas, Dylan Murphy, and John Murphy; three step-grandchildren, Brian Hildebrand, Jeff Hildebrand, and Lori Hildebrand; one brother, Robert Curtis of Frankfort, Ind.; one sister, Judy Easton and husband, Roger of Fruitland, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Curtis of Oakwood, Ill. and Rono Curtis of Mustang, Okla.; and a step-daughter, Kay Hildebrand.

Betty attended Northside Baptist Church and was a member of Paul McVey V.F.W. Post 1592 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and loved cooking. Betty retired from EIU as a cook.
