Betty S. Brown, 82, Port Charlotte, FL died August 23, 2008 at her home.
She was the eldest child of the late Rev. Charles B. and Marea Ream Smith, and lived in Avoca for over 30 years. She trained as a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, and spent many of her years in Avoca volunteering with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Ambulance Association and the American Red Cross.
She was preceded in death by her son Robert, her sister, Reba, and her husband George H. Roberts. She was also the widow of Wilfred Lanphear and William J. Brown.
She is survived by her children, Georgia, and her husband Peter Narsavage, Morgantown, WV; Anong, Shalimar, FL; Betty Jo, and her husband Stan Knauff, Indianapolis, IN; George Roberts, and his wife Linda, Wooster, OH; Charles Roberts, and his wife Donna, Baden; Ronald Roberts, and his wife Lisa, Avoca; and Maureen, and her husband Carl Zukosky, Levitttown; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Benjamin, Lois Merrell and Paula Marea; and brothers Dwight and Charles Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Sept. 20 at Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, Avoca. A remembrance service will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by the Piontek Funeral Home, Duryea. Interment Langcliffe Cemetery, Avoca.
