Beverly Man Faces Gun, Drug Trafficking Charges: Police
BEVERLY, MA — A Beverly man with three outstanding arrest warrants is facing additional gun and drug trafficking charges after police said he was found in possession of cocaine, fentanyl, pills and a loaded handgun when he was taken into custody Wednesday night.
Police said Steven Cunha, 37, was taken to Beverly Hospital for unspecified injuries before he was then brought to the Beverly Police Department for booking.
Police said when they attempted to arrest Cunha as he left his residence on Cabot Street Wednesday night "several of his associates came out and began to interfere with the officers."
Police said Cunha was eventually apprehended and a backpack he was carrying was searched. In the backpack, police said, was about 35 grams of suspected cocaine, 20 grams of fentanyl, 20 grams of methamphetamine, "several" Oxycodone, Adderal and Buprenorphine pills, as well as PCP, LSD, electronic scales, a loaded .25-caliber handgun and almost $2,000 in cash.
Along with the outstanding warrants, Cunha was also charged with possession of a loaded firearm without a license to carry, possession of ammunition without an FID card, trafficking cocaine, trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute Class B Oxycodone, Adderall, LSD, and Buprenorphine, possession of Class B PCP, Class C Clonazempam, Class E Gabapentin, and providing false information to police.
