A very bright fireball was seen throughout the Midwest on Saturday night, with hundreds of eyewitnesses filing reports, according to NASA .

Around 11:45 p.m. between Covert and Watervliet in West Michigan, Laura White captured a video of the meteor passing.

According to NASA, hundreds of eyewitnesses from several states and in Canada reported the meteor to the American Meteor Society.

NASA believes it first appeared 60 miles above Lake Erie near Kelleys Island and traveled 72 miles through the upper atmosphere before disintegrating 24 miles above the town of Mohicanville, Ohio. It was traveling at a speed of 70,000 miles per hour.

The object's orbit and light curve suggest it was produced by a piece from a Jupiter family comet approximately 11 inches in diameter, weighing 66 pounds, according to NASA. It was not associated with any currently active meteor shower.
