Birmingham named ‘worst run’ city in Alabama, but is the ranking system fair?

Birmingham was recently ranked as the worst run city in Alabama by financial site WalletHub. Although the city's poor performance in some categories was unsurprising to state experts, one says the site might be making unfair comparisons.

Using data compiled from multiple national sources including the Census, the FBI, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control, WalletHub compared 148 of the most populated cities in the U.S. across six key categories: 1) Financial Stability, 2) Education, 3) Health, 4) Safety, 5) Economy and 6) Infrastructure & Pollution, according to their website. The categorical scores were then combined to result in a total city score for each location on a scale of 1-100.
