Bismarck residents dealing with aftermath of multiple forest fires

BISMARCK, Ark. – People living in Bismarck are still dealing with the aftermath of three different forest fires throughout the weekend that began on Friday.

In a Facebook post, the Bismarck Fire Protection Association said Saturday that the fire was contained, but on Sunday it re-ignited.

"It doesn't take much, especially in a hay field or something, like how this kind of intentionally started. It doesn't take long for it to catch fire and just start running across there," Fire Chief Duke Evans said.

The Arkansas Forestry Department assisted as well, cutting lines in between the trees to stop the fire from growing.

Firefighters from the New Deroche Fire Department and Hot Spring County Dispatch also helped to put out these fires. Homeowners in the area, like Adrienne Walsh, also chipped in.

Walsh and her friend rode their horses behind the pasture of her home on Monday morning and spotted remaining flare-ups.

"We were just scooping up dirt and putting it on the smoldering places, the stumps, and things like that," Walsh said.

Evans said there should be no more flames or smoke from these fires.
