BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - The Out of the Darkness Community Walk raised money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The Bloomington walk was an opportunity for people affected by suicide to connect and support each other. Many of the walkers had lost a friend or relative to suicide, or had struggled with mental health themselves.

"When people come to a walk like this, they know they're helping the foundation to provide the free resources and free education that we know can save lives, but they're also coming together as a community and supporting each other. When you come to an out of the darkness walk, you know you're not alone," said Angela Cummings, Executive Director for the Illinois chapter of the foundation.

The Out of the Darkness Walk raised about $20,000. This was one of 17 Out of Darkness walks in Illinois this fall.

If you need support, you can call the suicide and crisis lifeline at 988.
