SAN ANTONIO - Two brothers in the Brackenridge JROTC program jumped into action to save a Marble Falls ISD police officer who shot himself in the leg.

Around 5:55 p.m. on Friday, Josiah and Ethan Reynero were unloading ice chests from a school bus at a football game at Marble Falls High School, when they heard a loud pop and saw a bright flash.

The brothers, who are in the Brackenridge U.S. ArmyJunior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program, jumped into action, checking themselves and each other, as well as their "battle buddy" for gunshot wounds.

Their mother tells us that's when Josiah saw an officer with the Marble Falls ISD officer grabbing his leg in pain and yelling for the others to come to the officer's aid.

Ethan helped hold the officer up and tightened the tourniquet around the officer's leg. The officer instructed him to call 911 and gave Ethan the codes to help request assistance.

As Ethan and his "battle buddy" are helping the officer, an unknown man grabs Ethan's phone, while on the line with 911, and throws it on top of a nearby car, disconnecting the call.

During this time frame, Josiah reaches his sergeants to notify them of the incident, telling them "The cop shot himself, and Ethan's over there helping him."

The sergeants run to the scene to assist and attempt to relieve Ethan, when he tells them of how his phone had been taken. Ethan was able to get his phone back 25 minutes later.

As this situation is ongoing SAISD bus drivers finally come over and tell the brothers to leave. When the brothers refused, the drivers allegedly became more assertive, to which the sergeants responded in turn, insisting the boys stay present.

"These two young men were involved in the first aid assistance to the Marble Falls ISD officer who accidentally discharged his weapon shooting himself at the away game last night in Marble Falls," said Brackenridge JROTC in a statement. "Ethan (right) was able to help the officer apply the tourniquet as well as call 911, while his brother Josiah on the left was able to grab assistance from school officials. "

The officer was eventually transported to a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

"At approximately 5:55 this evening, an MFISD school resource officer (SRO) experienced an accidental discharge of his firearm while seated inside the holster," said the Marble Falls ISD Police Department. "This subsequently resulted in a non-life-threatening injury to his leg. Please join us in sending prayers to a member of our MFISD family."

The brothers are currently fundraising to support their school's JROTC program. and GoFundMe links can be found here.
