Brass Tap is bringing the beer necessities to Reno

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Craft beer lovers in Reno now have a new place to enjoy their favorite brews from the Reno / Tahoe area.

Nevada Native, Brian Edwards, loves craft beer so much, you would think he's been involved in brewing his whole life. But, for the last 30 years, he was actually a physical therapist.

"It was time to reinvent myself," Edwards said.

The two professions couldn't be more opposite, so when asked why Edwards wanted to make the shift to restaurant owner, he gave a very honest answer.

"I'm a guy. We basically like to drink beer and watch sports," Edwards laughed.

Brass Tap is a Tampa based franchise. Each location provides a unique space for social gatherings and entertainment, with an elevated casual, sports bar atmosphere, created through live music, trivia, sports on every TV, exclusive beer tastings, and tap takeovers. But don't expect the same old, same old there. Edwards, showcases 60 craft beers on tap. Most of which come from within 150 miles of Reno.

"It's about regional beer," said Edwards.

Edwards calls out the "big three" American beer companies for being internationally owned. Something that just doesn't sit quite right with him.

"Those revenues and tax dollars go internationally," begins Edwards. "Well, these celebrate our local brewhouses, locally. So revenues and taxes are spent here for our roads, our schools, our neighborhoods, and our parks."

For Edwards, every pint sold is a celebration of the craft, and the people behind it.

"Brewhouses are artisans. They're dedicated to putting up the best beer possible. It is a work of art. It's a craft. Hence the name, craft beer," said Edwards.
