BRENHAM, Texas (KBTX) - The Texas high school football playoffs being on Thursday.

Franklin was the lone local team to make it to Arlington last year and will be looking to get back there starting Thursday in the bi-district round.

Several other teams have hopes of playing into late November and December including Brenham.

The Cubs wrapped up the regular season 9-1 and won the District 10-5A DII championship.

It was a big bounce back season after going 5-6 last year and getting bounced in the first round.

The Cubs are led by dynamic sophomore running back Jacoby Dixon.

They're also in year three under head coach Danny Youngs who feels they're headed in the right direction.

"I think we're really a lot tougher than we were last year as far as physically and going through off season and sack camp," Youngs said. "We have a lot of young guys. Everybody keeps saying is it the growth from last year? It is the growth within the entire program.. you know we're starting 17 underclassmen and the guys that have stayed around they've stayed around because they believe in what we're doing, and we still haven't played our best football yet."

Brenham hosts Texas City in the bi-district round Friday at 7:00 p.m.
