Brennan Johnson has equalled a record set by Harry Kane as his incredible form in front of goal continued in Tottenham 's clash with Brighton .

After coming under fire from fans following Spurs' defeat in the north London derby last month the 23-year-old has embarked on the prolific run of his career to date.

At the Amex on Sunday Johnson found himself through on goal after a sublime ball from Dominic Solanke and duly swept his strike beyond Bart Verbruggen to give the visitors the lead.

The goal means the Wales international has already beaten his tally from the entirety of his first season in north London.

Johnson has now scored in six consecutive games in all competitions for Ange Postecoglou 's side becoming the first player to achieve the feat since club legend Kane in January 2019.

Johnson is also the youngest Spurs star to net in three consecutive Premier League games since an emerging Dele Alli managed the feat in 2017.

After a torrent of abuse following their defeat to Arsenal last month, Johnson deactivated his social media accounts and appeared to be devoid of confidence.

Since then however, the former Nottingham Forest star has played like a man possessed as Spurs have continued to rise up the Premier League table.

Postecoglou stuck with the young forward for a EFL Cup clash with Coventry just days after their defeat by the Gunners and Johnson repaid his manager's faith by netting in the 2-1 win.

Three days later he opened his Premier League account in Spurs' a 3-1 win over Brentford before adding another as they comfortably defeated Qarabag in the Europa League.

Johnson then opened the scoring as Tottenham humiliated Manchester United before making it five-in-a-row after coming off the bench against Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Speaking after Tottenham's win at Old Trafford James Maddison hailed Johnson's resilience and ability.

'Brennan is first and foremost a very good friend,' Maddison said. 'A lot has been made of him coming off social media which to him was probably not such a big thing.

'He's the type of guy to have a break from that stuff anyway. But since he's gone four in four I don't think I'll be telling him to redownload anytime soon!

'He's a great kid, a brilliant player. No-one has ever doubted that but he's really showing it at the minute, consistently.'
