Gateway esports teams in playoffs

Two Gateway Technical College esports teams will compete live in post-Thanksgiving events including a playoff match against the New York-based SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcats.

Both competitions can be watched live at www.twitch.tv/gtc_redhawks_esports_club

The Overwatch 2 esports team will stream their first playoff live in the arena against SUNY Polytechnic at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

The Fortnite Duos Team – ranked sixth out of 59 colleges in the league – will play their final competition of the regular season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30. It will be the team’s final week of the season, and they are also playoff bound.

Brookside to host Coffee & Cocoa with Kerkman

KENOSHA — Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman will host her first Coffee & Cocoa with Kerkman event of the season from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. this Thursday Nov. 30, at Brookside Care Center.

The event is an opportunity for people to meet informally with Kerkman, to share feedback and ask questions about county government issues.

The Brookside event will also feature Christmas carols performed by choral students from Bradford High School.

“This is a great opportunity to chat, to enjoy some festive music, and to get an inside look at the award-winning Brookside facility,” Kerkman said.

Other Cocoa & Coffee events will be scheduled throughout the winter, including a joint appearance with Mayor John Antaramian on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Kenosha Public Museum.

County tree lighting ceremony Friday

SOMERS — The public to join in a celebration on Friday, Dec. 1, to mark the lighting of new county Christmas tree in Petrfiying Springs Park.

The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. near the Biergarten on the south end of the park, near the Highway JR entrance.

The Biergarten will be open beginning at 3 p.m., selling German mulled wine and beer.

Hot chocolate stations will also be available and the Frites on the Streets food truck will be selling bowls of chili and chili fries.

Before and after the lighting of the tree, an ornament decorating station will be available for kids and families, as well as photo opportunities with Santa Claus.

“We look forward to this becoming an annual tradition at Petrifying Springs Park,” Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman said. “Come out and join us for some holiday cheer in our beautiful park.”

Petrifying Springs Park is located at 5555 Seventh St. in the Village of Somers.

Area bridge club results listed

MOUNT PLEASANT — Each week two ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games are played in Racine—at 12:15 p.m. Monday and Friday at The Lanes, 6501 Washington Ave.

People must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination to play. Call Henry Kensler, club manager, at 262-652-6173 for reservations.
