UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Monday evening fire on Broad Street in the City of Utica sent one firefighter to the hospital, according to the Utica Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the fire at the Broad Street Cash and Carry at approximately 5:30 pm on Monday, August 26. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. Firefighters say they found a 30-yard dumpster fully involved, which extended to the back of the building.

No occupants were found in the building after a search by firefighters. However, the fire did extend to a loading dock and an overhead door before firefighters were able to put it out.

One firefighter was transported to the Wynn Hospital in Utica for evaluation of a possible heat-related injury. No update was given to the firefighter's condition.

The Utica Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Utica Police Department, Edwards Ambulance of Chadwicks, and National Grid.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Utica Fire Marshal's Office.

This is an ongoing investigation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
