Erie City Council met on Wednesday on State Street with broadband internet on the agenda.

City council member Chuck Nelson said the city has seen major improvements to broadband internet, with almost everyone in the city having access to high internet speeds.

But Nelson said they are breaking ground with getting the city access to fiber internet to make those speeds even faster.

"Just in 2021, less than 10% of households in Erie had access to fiber, and by the end of this year, we're going to be up to half. The hope is that we keep going with that so we have city-wide fiber optic internet for some of the highest speed internet in the nation," said Nelson.

Nelson said he thinks broadband and fiber access will help attract people to the city.
