Broadway Votes is a new effort to register people to vote and engage in the election process.

It uses songs and shows to establish common bonds. On Sunday in Times Square, some Broadway favorites made the connection.

As a melody from the show and upcoming movie "Wicked" echoed along 7th Avenue, people stopped to listen.

Signs encouraged people to vote and to be informed about election dates and issues.

Nelini Stamp co-founded it as a non-partisan initiative. For the first time, they're taking to the stage in Times Square.

"Singing is a great way to meet people where they are and not feel like pushing a conversation," Stamp said.

This season, they are also coordinating speeches at the end of some Broadway performances inside theaters to encourage voting.

Early voting starts in some states out west within the next week. In New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, it's closer to election day.
