'Broadway Musical Version' of Hit Taylor Swift Song Takes Internet By Storm
The spectacular performance of a Taylor Swift track has gone viral, leaving fans clamoring for a Broadway musical show based on the superstar's hugely successful songbook.
Swift unveiled The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived this year, on her latest album The Tortured Poets Department, and in June, rising star Jaedynn Latter shared her version, a dramatic, musical-style rendition that showcased her incredible vocals. The clip was first posted on TikTok and has now resurfaced on X, where it has clocked up 486.7K views in just a few days.
The video , which shows Latter clutching a mic as she serves up her powerful take on the track, was shared on the platform by a fan who wrote: "Just thinking about how insane a Taylor Swift musical would be again."
And it seems other Swifties agree, with many now pleading for a Taylor Swift Broadway theater show. "It would be fantastic, actually," one wrote on X. "She's an amazing storyteller, why not?"
"Omg absolute chills I've never wanted to see a Broadway show that didn't exist more," said someone else. Another remarked: "Right? It would be epic! Her lyrics tell such great stories already. What songs do you think would be must-haves in it..."
"I would do anything for a Taylor Swift jukebox musical whether it be specifically The Tortured Poets Department or even just a combo of different songs throughout her discography," one person said.
"I would love a Taylor Swift musical one day," posted another fan. Tagging Swift and Lin-Manuel Miranda , who created the Broadway musicals In The Heights and Hamilton, one fan urged: "Pls make this happen... PLEASE."
Others suggested it would be a good way for Swift to win a Tony and move toward EGOT status, which is where someone has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award. "Come on Tay. You know you're after the 'T' in that EGOT," said one.
The singer has several Grammys for her music and won an Emmy for Original Interactive Program for her Amex Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience project. But so far she has yet to bag an Oscar, which are given out in the film industry, or a Tony, which are for the theater world.
There was also plenty of praise online for Latter who, according to her website , is from California and is a music theater major. She has been producing original music since 2020 and earlier this year she unveiled her debut album, Point Of You.
Swifties were blown away by her voice, with one commenting: "If there's a musical, this girl needs to be in it. Omg she's amazing." "I love this girl so much," said another admirer, as somebody else exclaimed: "What a talent!!!"
Newsweek has emailed representatives for Swift and Latter for comment.
