Browns at Broncos third quarter recap
B.Hernandez3 months ago
The Denver Broncos got the ball to start the second half and looked to negate some of the momentum the Cleveland Browns had picked up with back-to-back scoring drives to close out the first half. And like many first second-half drives this season, the Broncos went three-and-out. Broncos on their opening possession of the third quarter this season:
Three-and-outs on 6-of-11 drives.— Nick Kosmider November 26, 2023 Denver’s inability to stop the run became a glaring issue as they faced the Browns to open the second half. With the run game working, the passing game opened up as Dorian Thompson-Robinson began dealing. The Broncos defense would hold on fourth down, but a critical penalty on P.J. Locke would give the Browns a first and goal at the five. After an incompletion on first down and back-to-back run stuffs the Browns used trickery to convert on a fourth and goal from the two to make it a game. They would fail to convert the two-point conversion to keep Denver’s lead at two.Broncos 14, Browns 12. Having gotten their first flop drive of the second half out of the way, the Broncos offense kicked it back into gear after the Browns touchdown drive. A nice pass from Russell Wilson to Lil’Jordan Humphrey got them close to midfield, then Javonte Williams broke loose outside for a 15-yard gain just outside of field goal range. Samaje Perine then burst up the middle for an eight yard gain to get them into field goal range officially. Denver had averaged 5.1 yards per carry up to that point and only tacked on with their next run from Perine who burst outside for a big run to the Browns seven yard line for a 24-yard gain. Every thing would stall from there, but the field goal would put Denver back up by more than a field goal.Broncos 17, Browns 12. The third quarter would end with the Browns Dorian Thompson-Robinson getting rocked on third down on a clean hit by Baron Browning who led with his shoulder, but the referees changed the game in favor of Cleveland heading into the fourth quarter. The refs are really screwing over the Broncos in this one. Weak holding call on Sutton, weak OPI, weak flag on Locke and now a flag on a clean hit on the QB.— MileHighReport November 26, 2023
